La Tania: What to Know Before You Arrive
La Tania sits at 1,350 metres, connected directly to the Three Valleys ski area through Courchevel. The village was purpose-built for the 1992 Winter Olympics and the absence of cars in the village centre is not an accident — it was designed from the start to be safe, walkable, and practical for families with children.
The slopes above La Tania are predominantly green and blue, making it one of the best places in the Alps to learn to ski or to progress from beginner to intermediate. The ESF ski school operates directly from the village, with morning group classes and private lessons available throughout the season.
From La Tania, a short gondola ride connects you to Courchevel Moriond (1650) and from there to the full Three Valleys — 600km of pisted skiing across Courchevel, Meribel, and Les Menuires. Confident skiers can access the entire network from the village in under 20 minutes.
The village itself has two or three good restaurants, a ski shop, a mini-market, and not much else. That is not a complaint — it is exactly what families who want to ski in the morning, rest in the afternoon, and eat quietly in the evening are looking for. The absence of nightlife, designer boutiques, and Palace hotel foot traffic is the point.
Prices in La Tania run 30 to 40 percent below comparable chalets in Courchevel 1850. For families focused on the skiing rather than the social scene, this makes it one of the best-value luxury ski destinations in the Alps.
